rasika is proud to bring you a Grand Vocal Concert by the renowned disciple of Madurai Mani Iyer, Sri. TV Sankaranarayanan.

Padma Bhushan, Sangeetha Kalanidhi T.V. Sankaranarayanan, is an eminent and popular Carnatic vocalist, known for his vibrant music that essentially stems from the style of his late uncle-guru, Madurai Mani Iyer, and who has at the same time evolved his own distinct individual bhani also. Born in Mayiladuturai, Thanjavur district, of T.S. Vembu Iyer, he learnt music from his uncle Madurai Mani Iyer from the age of nine. At fifteen, he joined his father, who was also a disciple of the venerable Mani Iyer. On February 2, 1968, he made his debut with T.N. Krishnan on violin, Vellore Ramabhadran on mridangam and AlangudiRamachandran on ghatam

Sankaranarayanan is particularly noted for the easy reach of his voice to the upper notes and colourful delineation of the Swaraprastaram. His emotion-laden style of singing has won him a large following among music lovers. He has performed widely at home and abroad and has several albums to his credit. In a profile published in the Financial Express, Subbudu, a music critic, once wrote: ‘Sankaranarayanan is indeed an asset to the Carnatic music world, where the tribe of good vocalists is dwindling.’

In this concert, Sri TV Sankaranarayanan will be accompanied by VVS Murari on the violin and Thiruvarur Bhakthavatsalam on the mridangam.
