MAYA: ILLUSION: World music and dance presentation

Featuring Indian Violin Maestro Ganesh Rajagopalan

When: August 23, 2014 at 7:00 pm

Location: Dolores Winningstad Theater (PCPA)

Event Type: Music Concert, Dance Performance

rasika is proud to present a musical production of Violin maestro Ganesh Rajagopalan leading a musical team of world class musicians and featured dance performance.

Indian Violin Maestro Ganesh Rajagopalan explores new boundaries as he commissions jazz artists to accompany him on Indian ragas with jazz chords in a world music exposition.

Ganesh begins with a traditional Carnatic composition on the Violin accompanied by Indian percussionist S. V. Ramani from India on the Ghatam or Clay pot. He then invites the two brilliant jazz performers, Osam Ezzeldin on Piano and Keyboard and the MacArthur genius fellow Dafnis Preito on the drums to play his contemporary compositions. The lead piece ‘Maya’: Illusion creates magical music with ragas interwoven with jazz renditions on keyboard and drums. He is then joined by the featured guest artist, Portland’s well known choreographer/performer Dr. Jayanthi Raman to present a new piece on Goddess Shakti based on the Soundarya Lahiri adding visual dimension to the presentation.

One evening presentation only in Portland, not to be missed.
