India Arts Fest 2015 (Outreach Events)

As part of India Fest 2015, rasika is presenting FREE Outreach Events across the region. All are welcome.

Outreach events in Hillsboro:

Tuesday 29th September 2015 (7pm – 8pm): Dance Lecdem – Bharatha Natyam – Classical dance of India presented by Jayanthi Raman and troupe
Venue: Glenn & Viola Walter Arts center, Hillsboro, OR

Jayanthi Raman is Northwest’s renowned scholar, world class dancer and recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Individual Artist Fellowship Award from the Oregon Arts Commission in recognition of her contribution to Indian music and dance locally over past 25 years.
In addition, Jayanthi has also authored two books on Indian dance was released in May 2015. The first book is intended for the general audience interested in learning about Indian dance, the history, cultural contact, mythology, the music and the journey of a dancer in the US, written for any reader, children or adults. The beautiful photos add to the aesthetics of the dance and content of the book.
The second book with over 200 photos is intended for practitioner of dance, including world dance. A comprehensive book on technique, simplified for an American reader, especially for students living in the US and studying indian dance. A short dance presentation will be followed by a lecture on the art form and allow audience to interact with the author. Books will also be available for sale.

Wednesday 30th September 2015 (7pm – 8pm): Music Lecdem- Carnatic classical music of India presented by Binny & Krishnakumar along with Rasika Music School faculty: E.B. Jayaprakash on Violin & B. Vijayan on mridangam
Venue: Glenn & Viola Walter Arts center, Hillsboro, OR

Duo vocalists Binny & Krishnakumar have been a popular vocal musician couple in Carnatic music and the film music as well. Hailing from the State of Kerala in South India, they have widely traveled in India and abroad to perform solo and duo Carnatic concerts and theme-oriented special concerts. Dr. Krishnakumar is a renowned scholar who holds a PhD in Carnatic music and will be leading the interactive lecture with demonstrations of the classical music system for benefit of connoisseurs as well as lay public.

Thursday 1st october 2015: Master class in Bharatha Natyam classical dance presented by Northwest’s renowned master artist, choreographer, performer and scholar, Jayanthi Raman.

Workshop and master classes in Hillsboro:

October 6th through October 26th: Workshop and master classes on Indian classical Carnatic music: presented by duo vocalists Binny & Dr Krishnakumar
Students of Rasika Music school will be able to attend free master classes, please contact your music school teachers for more information on registering for the workshops and master classes.
